OK, my first posting for 2022! Wishing you all the best! Got myselve a bynolyt lens to scope adapter. This adapter gives a decent image, the mounted lens focal lenght needs to be divided by 10 to get the magnification factor (so as an example a 300mm becomes a 30x telescope) It also can be used as a monucular "microscope" in conjunction with a 1/1 macro lens it will give a 25x magnification.( didn't try this so far)
So far i briefly used it with the Nikkor 500mm cat, the 300mm IF ED and the sigma 120-300 2.8 zoom. With all of these lenses a tripod is necessary to get a stable image, the 300mm IF ED can to some extend be handheld due to it's lesser weight and magnification, if you've got some sort of support to keep it steady. The adapter is optimised for use with lenses at f4 Because of the optical construction no brightness is gained by using a 2.8 lens over a f4 lens, the 500mm f8 does give a good image not significantly darker than the f4's. Both the cat and lenses with ED glass give good results due to the lack of chromatic aberrations.
Now the bad news, even though optical performance is very good, the adaptor is made out of a plastic material (lens mount is metal) and the tripod mount is very flimsy, i wouldn't trust it with anything longer than a 50mm or so...it is however easy to remove, with longer lenses the tripod mount of the lens can (must) be used. It is also rather expensive i guess for the price it costs you could buy a complete spotting scope with the same performance. So the only reason for it's existance is that it is small and light to take along in your camera bag so when the occasion arises it can be put to good use.
The bynolyt lens to scope adapter
In combination with the Nikkor 500mm Cat
In combination with the Nikkor 300mm IF ED
In combination with the Sigma 120-300 2.8
And here's the "grandfather" of lens to scope adapters : the Leitz 5cm 3.5X wich is no more than a rear lens cap with a small lens group wich can be mounted on LTM lenses (thoug it was made for the 3.5 50 Elmar) here it is on a serenar 135mm.
The image circle is very small but the image is rather good, still this is more of a collectors item.
