OK . 27mm f2.8 lens arrived - I love the handling and the OVF with bright line frame .
It takes me back to my 1st 35m camera with zone focusing and bright line finder - but with AF !
It's complex , but frankly , it's set up as a point and shoot on programme until I can get into the handbook . a decent point and shoot with nom 41mm lens at £308 is fine for me .
However , I am content with learning Manual as I have with the others .

Phew - I thought that I was the odd one out , scrambling around for ex-dem or close out stock ! The Sony A35 was the nearest at retail , but even then , it was discounted as discontinued . The A290 was a gift , that was retail , but less expensive than any entry level 'rival ' - though it was not seen as completion for any other budget DSLR . The wierd element is that I love it's utter simplicity and old CCD colour rendition that I found a cheap A390 [ flip screen ] on e-bay - should have waited !!
dee
That is to say that I have bought only one camera which I describe as OK , but not much fun - it was a Samsung NX 1000 - new , , cheap , Dulux white and came with the zoom and a nom 24mm lens - cheaper than buying lens for a Sony .

I have just noticed that I may see a potential camera , but wait until the later model is announced and then jump in . The camera is precisely the same as when I 1st considered it , but it's suddenly become uncool .
I have also bought a few used , Leica Dig 3 and Panasonic L1 [ my al time fave cameras ] from a respected Leica dealer and a Sony A390 [ for waist level screen ] from e-bay because I knew how old it would be as they only made it for two years and would not be bought by a serious photographer.
Others were ex-dem or just on sale , like the bargain of the month - new Fujifilm X-Pro 1 body from Car Phone @ £158 . It's as if there is no respect among these whit goods outlets and it s make space whatever . Not that I am complaining mind you .
With a 27mm f2.8 @ £150 awaited , this a serious budget outfit - making £35 for a leather case see outlandish extravagance . [ I have a very small leather bag which cost £1 from a charity shop , which may be dee'respectful to the camera - but the M8 is content with an identical case .
Does anyone but equipment at full price ?

Possibly a APSC camera 'phone , as ever - with built in obsolescence ... back in the day , virtually any camera could be coaxed back into life and quality was a combination of lenses and CHOICE of film .

Somehow , by dee'fault [ faulty ASdee brain ] I have collected 10 Digital cameras from my 1st Canon G2 , through to the latest Fujifilm X-Pro 1 .
I can't seem to let one go to buy another , they create constancy in out of phase lostness - each , with photos on the i-mac call to mind the time when they were flavour of the month , others, such as the Leica M8 [ emMa8 ] and the Leica Dig 3 / Pan L1 are simply a joy to use .
I had money , then although the Leicas M/Dig 3 and L1 were from an inheritance .
I guess most sensible souls let go of stuff and move on , but I find it dee'ficult .

Following the sale of a 1933 Leica II , a 27m f2.8 pancake lens for the X-Pro is waiting to be ordered . it's a nominal 41 mm which should suit as I used 45mm on the Minoltas in the past .
I reckon the complete camera is a bargain at £310 - I just did not want the sensible travel compact CSC with zoom [ Panasonic / Olympus / Sony etc ] . I have tried that with a Samsung NX1000 , which was just £150 .
So- Sony A35 , 50mm and old 35-80 [ 52-120 ] / Sony A390 kit lens 'cos I love the colours from that CCD sensor ,
X-Pro 1 + 27mm [ 41 ] just because ...[ the M8 is a touch heavy , and I would not it lost/stolen/damaged ]
Thanks everyone .
dee'saster . dee'mented .

I STIL LOVE THAT SMOOTHED [ NO D/A ] TAN COVERED CONTAX IM MY AVATAR !!

Sold overnight @190 on e-bay -
Deliberately inexpensive , but the pancake 27mm f2.8 [ 41 at crop factor ] lens I need for my X-Pro 1 is £150 rather than £250-£370 [ yes really ! ].
So both myself , and the buyer who has longed for a Leica - and I do have another 1932 1st batch in similar condition .

I hate to admit this , but I have this day , sent off a Leica II , black and nickel plus fair Elmar to finance a bargain 27mm f2.8 Fujinon.
The 41mm nom focal length is fine for me , but crucially , it is on sale at £150 , not £259 or £375 [ Currys where I bought the new body for under £200 .]
Perfect package with pancake lens and OVF if I just let the camera do it's own thing , though I guess I will be tempted to switch to manual so as not to be stuck with the perfect exposure . I shall also buy a Leica adapter to play with my CV 35 and Summitar .

Prior to e-bay - New X-Pro lens forces sale - Lovely 1933 , 2nd batch Leica II black and Nickel . Body with cloudy Elmar . Perfect , unfaded covering . Minimal Brassing . Works exquisitely . Speeds seem appropriate - well worth CLA if you deem it necessary . I bought the very best back in the day .
BUT THE COLLAR AROUND THE SHUTTER BUTTON IS MISSING , don't how or why . £180 ? -

Hi
I have to raise £180 for a lens for my X-Pro 1 .
My 1933 Leica II body has to go .
It's in superb condition with minimal brassing , some baseplate scratches - No 106457 , second batch of Leica II .
Works exquisitely - well worth CLA if it needs it . Speeds seem appropriate .
Covering undamaged or discoloured .
Engraving crisper than my 1932 1st batch 90360 .
COLLAR AROUND SHUTTER RELEASE MISSING , hence the price. Cloudy Elmar in feet included .
Just thought I would ask here prior to e-bay .

Alternatively , could sell the 1932 complete , in similar condition , but some blurring to engraving @ £250 with clean case .

Thanks - you have convinced me that It's got to be more minimalist . The X-Pro is not ready-huge learning curve on 3rd party lenses.
The M8 with 35 f2.5 Color Scopar and my trusty Summitar for Mono [ no filters ] I had not intended this , but reaquaintance convinced me
For low light - Sony A35 kit lens and 35 f1.8 which is great for the money . + A290 [ A390 ? ] with much loved Minolta 35-80 f4 'cos I like a proper DSLR - and the CCD colours are great .
I have skipped tele zooms and the Dig 3/L1 are a bit specialised .
OK, it's still 3x cameras , but ASD gets anxious without several options and back ups ....

Watching the end of Wimbledon was a sobering thought - the crowd delighted - and mobile phones , even tablets snapping away - I could not see one camera , let alone the debate about mirror or not ... I have just been coerced into buying an i phone something - the smaller one - 'cos it's compatible with the family . I can't hear when it rings etc , but I can use it as a music machine I guess ... oh yes .. photos ? I guess so , but my little Fujichrome XF1 [ with 35mm equivalent aperture markings - bliss ] is still going strong .

For some reason I always wanted a Topcon , but too expensive compared to a Minolta SRT .

It's odd , among my Sonys and fave Leica Dig3 / Pan L1 , there is an ex-dem Panasonic G1 which jammed quite a while ago and was rested and forgotten .[ dodgy 3rd party battery ?] This prompted it to reboot , and it stays out in the house for that grab shot / garden record . it's so unassuming , just gets the job done - with 'waist level finder ' etc almost a non camera . dee
