I have acquired a Canon S5200 SLR? Camera, I have tried to locate information on the camera with no success, even Canon UK & USA don't have any information on their web sites. Does anyone have any information on it. I have tried to add pictures to my post but am getting an error message that I am exceeding the forum limit, even though the images are less than 100kb each.

Mystery solved. Nikon had an S5200, but Canon didn't. However, one of these companies that makes cheapo crappy SLR-looking fixed-focus lens POS things that always come with a handle-mount crappy POS flash did name one a Canon S5200. Ripped off the Canon name and logo and the Nikon model number. See: www.auctionflex.com/showlot.ap?co=1&weiid=3097760&lang=EnI can't believe that 1) it made it to an auction, and 2) somebody actually bought it! Sorry, Stearman, but you did not buy a Canon and it is not an SLR. I hope you didn't pay much for it.

That's a bit blatent, usually they add another N...Cannon, or Kanon, and they rarely put fixed focus, usually Autofocus Fixed system, or Focus free, or Digital Free Focus!!!! .. Olympus altered to Olympic.. most come from Hong Kong companies more usually employed in the toy trade. At least the Holga et all trade as cheap cameras, these rip offs sell as more up market to customers who a being mislead deeply.

You must be gratified that it has an "Optical Lens".
I have a camera that is a clone of yours. The nameplate says "argus". It also has an "Optical Lens". It cost me $5.00 CAN.
Your "Canon" must be a much better fake than my "argus".
P.T. Barnum was right.

I remember a guy came in our shop when I worked at a camera dealers in Manchester. He had the metal case with a garishly illustrated sleeve over it. The camera was named something like; Mintax Professional SRB-l5299-X and came with the tripod and big flash gun like the one above. He bought it at a mock auction for £100. They told him it should cost £399.99 he was hoping to make a quick profit.
We all laughed when we saw it. I showed him a Nikon FM and told him, "Thats a £400 camera" He went ballistic. I pity the seller. The punter was a big guy - all bicep and no brains.
I cut off an Optical lens and can use it on my NEX with an adapter. Its not the worst lens I have.

Go on... reveal the lens that is worst! They ones I looked at were a simple meniscus lens and a curved film plane to try to "control" the edge distortion and anastigmatic problems. A pre-first war Kodak box would have a far superior lens. Mind you, Lomo enthusiasts like these plastic Hong Kong Phooeys

Watch this space for a test of the Optical Lens...

I tested a variety of lenses pulled from broken cams tonight. A new topic on it will be posted later
