This is an older post but I have to put my 2 cents in also. My Minolta SRT cameras and the Pentax K1000. You only need batteries for the light meter. Got to mention the Minolta XE-7. You can fire the shutter on X or B if your battery is dead.

Thank you Mickey, I will try that. The XE-7 is a camera I wanted for a long time. I still can't believe the paint looks so good.

I am sorry, I insulted my camera. It is a Minolta XE-7.

I got my Minolta X-7 yesterday. That thing is a beauty to look at. All the functions work and the paint is just about perfect. Paid under 40 dollars so not bad. How do I wipe the outside without damaging the paint? I use a lens cleaning wipe on my chrome SRT's once in a while. I just want to keep the paint looking great. Thanks to any one who can help me with this.

It has been a while since I have been on here. To let everyone know I have bought another Minolta camera. I got a X-570 body off the Bay for 24 dollars. It does not have the popularity of the X-700 or X-370 but in many respects it's a better camera. You can use the manual mode and never take your eyes off the viewfinder. I read you have to take your eye off the viewfinder to see if the shutter speed is correct on the X-700 to match the meter. The X-700 does have program mode. So it makes a good point and shot. I know the X-570 began production in 1983 but don't know how many years they were produced. The X-570 is a pleasure to shoot in manual mode. Aperture mode comes in handy for quicker shots. The X-570 does have a lot of plastic but the lighter weight is a benefit on long walks. The SRT's are still my favorite but they can get heavy after a while. I could keep on going and tell you how much I enjoy the X-570 but that would take several hours. If anyone has this camera I would like to hear your opinion about it.

lesdmess: It would be color 35mm film 200 and 400 speed. Sorry I didn't make that clear earlier. Thanks for the information on Dwaynes Photo. I do have one B&W roll 100 speed and would like to learn how to develop it.

Walgreens will stop processing film on April 16th of this year. I live in Live Oak Florida, and nothing local will process film. My film will have to be sent off by mail. I need some reliable places to send my film for development. What do y'all recommend that does a good job but don't break the bank? Thanks for any suggestions.

lesdmess: Thank you for the information. The XE is one camera not talked about on the Rokkor Files.

lesdmess: You have said great things about the XE and have sold me on it even more. I do like the feel of the SRT's. That is what I am used to. The XE reminds me so much of an SRT. This might sound dumb to you. The SRT and the XE are like a beautiful woman. Both not to fancy but attractive. The ones that came later with more technology, they want too much from you(-:

I am glad to read about the Mike Pentax Guy and sounds like a good place for my Pentax. Who does good CLA's on MInoltas in the US? I heard of Garry's Camera and read the prices. Is their anyone recommended more? Some things I can't risk doing my self.

sevesteen: I have a Pentax K1000 and like you not a camera repair person. I might risk a repair if its simple. Sometimes my shutter button will not spring back up. Also my film advance needs a little help sometimes. After reading about Eric the Pentax Guy I might send mine there for a CLA.

sevesteen: I would agree to send it to Eric the Pentax Guy. If you paid a good amount for the camera that's what I would do. The mirror would stay up on my Minolta SRT 101. I oiled the gear that controls the mirror with gun oil. (NOT RECOMMENDED BY SOME) Two or three drops and mine works great. Shot 3 rolls of film no issues so far. Be very careful because you could get oil in the wrong areas. I got my Minolta for cheap so I took the risk. I know this can be a hard judgment call. Also if it has other issues send it out for the CLA.
