lesdmess: It seems that the XE Minoltas and XD Minoltas hold their value like a Pentax K1000. I agree with(philbirch) that I would trust a 40 mechanical camera more than a electronic one. The XE has a few more electronics than a SRT and has 2 cds cells I think. The XD was a big step forward with more electronics and a silicon meter. Both have that metal shutter. I would like to get an XE and XD. The XE's are my favorite mainly on the looks and reminds me of an advanced SRT.

I did download a Pentax K1000 repair manual for my Pentax, freeproductmanual.com. Don't know if this could be any help.

lesdmess: Nikon seems to be the best SLR cameras ever built. I have never owned one but read great things about them. Personally I would not care for other brands but would like some Nikons and Leica's

I am a Minolta fan but giving other brands a try. My father had a Minolta XG-1n in the early 80s. That is what made me a fan. His XG-1 was stolen out of his Jeep.

Why is this a popular school camera? The reason I got it was to see what the big fuss was about. For being a Minolta guy I was surprised how well I like the Pentax. It is easy to use but I like the feel of the Minolta a little more.

lesdmess: I have a Pentax K1000 chrome not sure if their is a black one. I just wanted to tell you how good both versions look. You have great examples of the chrome and black. I have a question for you. Why does the black version cost more? Did most camera manufactures produce less black versions than the chrome versions?

From what I read online their were three Agfa Silette Originals. Type 1 1953, Type 2 1957, and Type 3 1958. philbirch: Type 1 1953-? Looks just like my Ansco Memar, came out in 1953 or 54 mot sure. julio1fer: Type 3 1958-?. From what I saw all three types could have different shutters and lenses. All I can say very happy with mine. I also have a Agfa Ambi Silette but we wont talk about that one it's broke )-:

Hello julio1fer:
My lens on the Ansco is the f3.5 and it has the Pronto shutter. (B 25 50 100 200) I know some had a f2.8 lens and faster shutters. Thank you very much for asking.

I would like to say it was free even shipping. Got it from one of those survey sites. The camera was on EBay first for $10.00 and $14.00 shipping but it did not sell. One on EBay that was damaged and broke just sold for about $30.00. Feels like I got a great deal and the seller got a raw deal. In one of the post I saw Stephen's Graflex Century 35A. Excellent information and a great looking camera Stephen(-:

One of the cameras that I enjoy is my Ansco Memar. It was made in Germany by the same company that made Agfa's In fact it's the same camera as the original Agfa Silitte from 1953. A very basic and plain looking camera but still beautiful. The one I have looks excellent and comes with a case. Everything on it works great even the self timer. The only thing I had to get working was the focus ring. Now the focus ring is working where I can adjust it. It is a viewfinder camera. The rangefinder was The Agfa Super Silitte or the Ansco Super Memar in the US. A nice little collectible that won't break the bank(-:

I have read a couple post on here about the Graflex Century 35A. I got one a couple weeks ago. Yes the one with the double cocking lever under the lens. It was made in Japan and built like a tank. The camera is in very good condition and comes with a case. All the functions work perfectly. The only problem there is a small dent on the focus ring. I can not wait to put in some black and white film and test it out. I would be happy to show everyone how it looks but still have trouble downloading photos. Thanks to the ones who tried to help me with that issue.

philbirch: I do like the Sony brands. They have carried on the Minolta name sake. Even though the A7 is an E mount that is a beautiful model. Also like the DSLR A77. But I know with the right adapters the Rokkors will fit. Wish I could afford one them nice Sony's

Lesdmess: I already have the SRT 101. You got the other models I like to get. Mainly the XE and XD models. I could be wrong but it seems the XE is between the SRT and XD.
