I had been away for some weeks, because of very limited leisure time due to a lot of work at the company and some difficulties just like a pipe burst in the front garden, internet problems lasting several weeks, three root canal treatments at the dentists and so on. I also got side tracked by looking for original French parts for my 1958 Peugeot ( which is not easy if you failed French in school ), which is currently abroad to get a new paint and some body work parts. I will start to assemble the shelves for my camera collection on friday. Yesterday I unpacked the boxes with my photo-books and catalogues :-) I hope I can get my Collection displayed again in the next 3 months.

Hi ! I received this camera some days ago as a gift from my uncle: A Zeiss Ikon Contessamat SE from the mid 1960`s, which spent many years in a neighbour`s basement. It is equipped with an 1:2.8/45 Color-Pantar in a Prontormatic 500 shutter. The camera is working, but the exposure meter seems to be inexact. The most interesting about this model is the designation “ZIAG” at the front panel. I think this is an shortcut for “ Zeiss Ikon Aktien Gesellschaft” ( stock company ). I have seen many Contessa`s and Contessamat`s marked with “ Zeiss Ikon”, but this is my first Zeiss camera marked with “ZIAG”. There is also no “made in Germany” marking at the camera. Does anyone know the reason for this variant name ? MIK

I saw a coverage at the TV news today ( was not at home yesterday ). I am totally shocked. I am at loss for words, but I like to express my solitarity with the bereaved.

Hi Hans !
Congratulations ! You wont find an Ikonette 35 every day. We call it: the Zeiss Banana, because of its shape. This one looks pretty fine, does it work ? I purchased a working one at a flea market here about 20 years ago, I think the price was less than 20.- EUR. I have seen two others in my life then, very expensive ( about 150.- EUR ) and not working. The Brillant also appears to be in good condition. Have fun with them !

Stephen, As Doug said, great price for this little gem ! They do not show up very often here and sometimes they are offered in bad condition. Yours is looking very good. I have about 15 different models in all formats and names. I like them too MIK

A very beautiful camera, Congratulations! I also thought that this would be a Contax clone. Never seen this model before, maybe for the reason that Hanimex cameras had not been sold over here.

Hi ! Last Sunday I spied this little camera at a flea market and I thought I have seen this one before. Then I remembered the Mansfield camera in my collection. The Emitax Automatic built by Yamato in Tokyo is identical in construction, the lens here is called “ Emikon “. There also exists a third name variant, the “ Palmat Automatic “. Maybe, sometimes… MIK

I searched online for "P&B", or "Audax" and found some more questions, but no answers. Even collectors in France which I know, have not heard of P&B before. The shutter speed markings "T" for Time and "B" for Bulb are suggesting an English manufacturer, but the focal lenght is marked in cm. The camera looks like it had been built in the late 1940`s or the early 1950`s. I think this one will become another ( french ? ) UFO ( Unbekanntes Foto Objekt / Unknown Photo Object ) in my collection... PS.: The aperture means 1:8 / 1 to 8 ( a common spelling on German cameras ).
Thanks Stephen and Berndt :-)

Hi ! I found this 6x9 folder some months ago. It is marked with " Audax " above the lens and at the back. There is also a sign with "P&B" below the lens. I have no manufacturer on my mind that would match these letters. The lens is a "Ianastare f 1:8 - 10.5cm ". I have never heard of, or seen an " Audax " camera before and did not find much on the web. Did anyone have an idea regarding the manufacturer, or the construction year ? MIK
