Mickey, I never realised there were so many categories. Mine are catalogued as 120, 35 mm I use and 35 mm I do not use (plus unknown film size box camera that sits on the side). I obviously have a lot to learn.

My favourite camera is my Voigtlander Vito B. Buying it was actually a mistake. I work shifts and sometimes I am not completely compis mentis when I am at home. I thought I was bidding for a different camera on Ebay but must have mis-clicked somewhere along the line and got the Vito B. It is delightful, snug in my hand, takes clear pictures, simple to use and is in regular use.

I don't think I am sleeping - I just don't post much. I read here everyday and post when there is some point to it.

It has the same f2.9 (rather than f2.8) Radionar lens as my Franka Solida III although it is clearly not one of those.
It has a 5cm lens - is it a 35mm camera?

24 hours later it seems just fine. Shall try dry running it a bit longer before attempting another film.

Jpegs will be around for a long time as there is so much stored in that format. I would imaging that the likes of Getty Images will maintain hardware/software that will read jpegs for many decades to come. It is really about quantity. ten years a go, the quantity of digital photograph and movie files was very low and the formats were fairly experimental. Now there are a great quantity of both and the formats have tidied up into a very few. I expect both to last for a long time.

I have been wanting a halfway decent 50mm lens for my digital Canon EOS - better than the kit lens at least. Being short of funds, I am thinking of buying a adapter to fit the Color-Skopar lens from my Voigtlander Bessamatic to the Canon.
Does anyone have any experience of this? And is it likely to be a good combination. I am impressed with the Color-Skopar on my old Voigtlanders but that does not necessarily equate to good on a modern digital that is not designed for it. (I do not mind the lack of automatic focus or exposure as most of my cameras do not have either).

A very timely thread! I recently (last week) bought a Voigtlander Bessamatic. Worked fine for the first eight frames of the first film - and then this afternoon it stuck. Having been inside a Compur shutter before, I wasn't about to make that mistake again. I was thinking in terms of binning the camera when I read this thread. Tried the lighter fluid about 30 minutes ago. Did nothing until I wiggled the little lever inside the lens housing and (so far) it is fine. Just hope it is still fine when the lighter fluid dries off.

That's how I see my E-book. If it is a book I will never want to re-read, it might as well be an E-book. But I still have bookcases in every room with books I will re-read many times.

I am after (not with any degree of urgency) a Voigtlander Vito B with a large viewfinder. On Ebay today the starting prices range from £0.99 plus £2.75 postage (sensible) to £36.99 plus £21.00 postage (I wish them well). I am hoping to pay around £10.00 to £15.00 for the camera plus £5.00 max postage

thanks for the info. I was under then impression that dial set shutters were phased out much earlier. Mine is the Ikonta-style Nettar.

I have just purchased a Nettar 515/2 camera which has a dial-set Telma shutter. All the info I can find about Nettars says they were introduced in 1934 - which seems a bit late for a dial set shutter. In fact, all the pictures of Nettar 515/2 cameras on Google have rim-set shutters.
Were they still using dial-set shutters in 1934?

There were suggestions among grammarians in the mid 20th century that, in the interests of more simple grammar, the subjunctive mood be dropped from teaching grammar in schools. I'm so glad it wasn't, but I may be in a minority. I'm told teaching the subjunctive mood has already been dropped from the National Curriculum for State-controlled schools. PeterW When I was in school in the 1960s, we were not taught any grammar despite it being a grammar school (Redruth County Grammar School to be precise) - we were certainly not taught moods, subjunctive or otherwise.

How does that shutter release go again? The viewfinders (there are two of them) are not very clear. The brighter the sun, the harder it is to see: All in all, the results are quite pleasing - particularly for 1/30 hand-held.
