Hi Bill, Nice buy, Series 1 Vivitars are great lens. My two best from eBay were a 58mm f1.4 Minolta that arrived with a Minolta SRT 101 yesterday (seller included it because the plastic tip of the wind lever was missing after the auction) and a Super Takumar 28 f3.5 for $16 Can. including shipping.

Ok Peter, Just because you asked: Houghton Butcher Watch Pocket Carbine, Ensign E20 or Carbine C20 film 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 Aldis Uno Anastigmat f7.7 4.75 In Focus Ansco Vest Pocket No. 0 1917 2C film A Zeiss Ikomat 520/15 that I received as a rusted pile of hooey in a box lot. Rust still shows behind bellows, on handle and sadly on the film pressure plate. Since film is scarce and pressure plate is rusted, more of a shelf queen than a user.

Hi Randy, Yes, gloomy weather here too so not many pictures. Built my cheapo macro lighting box yesterday so I'll be starting the daunting task of photographing each and every camera I own tommorrow. Today is for chiropractor and massage therapy. Massage sounds nice but therapeutic massage uses elbows to break up adhesions instead of fingers to relax, so ahead of time. OUCH. I can believe people would give a camera to someone who'd value it or use it. Sounds like you lucked out. Now for the important part, any pictures of the young blonde, LOL?

Hi everyone, Not sure if it's just timing, seasonal blahs or whatever but I'm up to my knees in new cameras lately and only so much time and decent light to go around. In the last two weeks I've acquired an Olympus OM-1 (thanks Bob), 2 Minolta SRT 101's (1 with the 58 f1.4), a Minolta SRT 200, Hanimex Nova 1B, GAF L-CM, Ricoh Singlex TLS, Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL, Sears 1000 MX TLS, Yashica J-5 (Jammed shutter though), Minolta X370, Trumpfreflex (TLR w/autofiring shutter, no focus and no ground glass to tinker with) and a Houghton Butcher Ensign Watch Pocket Carbine. On Friday I'm going to my US maildrop to pick up my other goodies, a Montanus Montana, Wirgin Edixa 1, unknown Zeiss Ikon folder, 200mm Sankyo Kohki lens, another Minolta SRT 101, and a Polaris 80-210 Zoom. Also found a Komura 2x teleconverter for Nikon F at a local thrift store. Some will be winter projects, a few will get used as soon as the weather permits, and a couple like the Ensign are just because they're beautiful to handle. Has anyone else had any luck lately in finding any new treasures? Seems awfully quiet even if it is so close to American Thanksgiving. Maybe everyone is out using their cameras so we can share a few pictures? Hello......echo..echo.....

I know how you feel Brian. I have boxes of repair/tinker/camera lens hack projects but lately three times I've found myself scouring eBay for Parts/Repair projects. Must be something seasonal only affecting Northerners.

Hi Michael, Of the two Anscos, the Autoset is the only one with the ability to change the f stop as it is clearly written from f2.8 to f16 around the rim of the lens barrel but the ability to pick a shutter speed isn't there as the camera selects that by guide number. The Anscoset ll has only a ring to set the guide number/film ASA and a focus ring. Guide numbers are an old system of shutter speed/f stop combinations pre selected for you by the camera. I'm sure Peter, Ron, or Dan could possibly explain in a little more detail but basically that's all the guide number system amounts to. About the only way to change the shutter speed would be to select a different ASA so the camera uses a higher or lower shutter speed/f stop combination. Much like tricking some of the auto everything point and shoots by selecting a different ASA than you're actually using.

Hi Michael, You appear to have the Anscoset II. I have a functional one as well as 2 Ansco Autoset CDS. Both use the Rokkor 45mm f2.8 by Minolta. The Autoset uses a Citizen PE shutter while the Autoset II uses a Citizen Opti Uni shutter. The funny extra trapezoid window is very possibly your rangefinder mirror that has come unglued and wedged itself in sideways. Not 100% sure on how to remove the top to reglue your mirror just two cautions: 1. The chrome headed knob/screw below the light meter is for adjustment not removal and 2. when you reglue your RF mirror do NOT use any of the miracle/crazy glue type glues as they off gas during drying and will ruin your mirror and possibly your viewing window too. Use contact cement instead and sparingly too.

Hi John, Your Halina 35X was as Peter said made in China and should look like this: or its evil twin the Ranger 35 like this: The Ranger has a few differences like the metal front plate and a sliding shutter speed selector lever instaed of a shutter speed ring. Also the Ranger has a Gendis 40mm f3.5 while the Halina 35X has a 45mm f3.5 Halina Anastigmat but they're one and the same camera.

Hi Ron, Thanks for the info. Yep, looks like I'll need to search for a Prismat NP or a Tower/Sears 32 B. And then that's it, no more lens mount systems, well unless I find another cool old lens pretty durn cheap, LOL.
