John, Philosophical answer:
If that's all it is about then there's no hope for any of us. We're all doomed to a life of pop-song mediocracy.

However, I'm pretty certain that we are all doomed ... doomed ... doomed ..

An old High Desert cowboy told me a long time ago that the real meaning of life was "chocolate cake." He said that's because even he could ask a woman for a piece of chocolate cake and even if he didn't get the cake, he wouldn't get his face slapped. At the time I thought his viewpoint was silly. But now that I'm almost 64 I understand him perfectly.

In the movie City Slickers, the late Jack Palances character talks about his first true love standing in front of him in the sunlight. I like his explaination of the meaning of life.

Rachel,
You're quite right, it should have been mediocrity.
My apologies for a lapse in grammar. A rare case, I hope.

... My apologies for a lapse in grammar ... Peter you were surely right first time. When we're ruled by technocrats we have technocracy When we're ruled by demos we have democracy When we're ruled by the mediocre we have mediocracy.

Hi Sid,
I think Rachel was correct, though maybe it was a lapse of syntax not grammar. I wrote: We're all doomed to a life of pop-song mediocracy.
Strictly speaking I think it should have been either We're all doomed to a life in a pop-song mediocracy. or We're all doomed to a life of pop-song mediocrity.

You are talking about the meaning of life? The question was once resolved with a Dateverarbeitungsanlage (computer) and the result was 42. Some think-tank (a reference group) came to similar conclusion using "Eeny meeny miny mo'' method.

See what I mean about this site? You ask one simple question, and what do you get?
OK Reijo. Who would you target on here as 'Marvin, the Paranoid Android' ?

Reijo
Humpty Dumpty just means something that's so badly broken, even an army can't fix it. I thought you must have been reading "Hitchikers Guide to The Galaxy", where the answer to 'life, the universe and everything' is 42 (And even that turns out to be wrong. The correct answer of course is the Hokey Cokey!).

Thanks, John! Now I remember they couldn't put him together again. Not back on the wall. Mediocrity is the word which suits best to me, Marvin, why not Regards Reijo
