I've just about decided it's time to start thinning out the collection a bit. I don't have time to use all the cameras I have, and it's a shame to let them just sit collecting dust. They're not literally collecting dust, since many are in barrister cases and most of the rest are in camera cases. There are only a few of the almost 175 cameras that actually have to be dusted. I just don't have time to use them all and keep the shutters and apertures limber! I'll probably mention a few of them here, before posting them on evilBay. ----- And no, this is not an April Fool's Day joke!

Mine pushed a lot of my diecast cars out of the display case. The rest I have in cases or cabinets. I got into a real buying frenzy back when I was working, and now they sit and do nothing. I'd sell some, but I'd take a bath on most of them.

The money that purchased them is already gone. The value is not likely to increase enough (in my lifetime) to make it worth hanging on to. And I can use the money (whatever it is) right now. Makes it easier to think about selling them.

I have known a lot of people who could not come to terms with that concept, especially when the item cost a lot of money back in the day. The longer they hold onto it, the more worthless it becomes, until their heirs are paying someone to haul it away.

And then you have those folks who fill in the front and sell off the back..like me, so the collection evolves over time but never seems to diminish very much.
The only force I am familiar with that can change the size when it suffers too much creepage..is my bride! Bless her heart!

I've got a few film Nikons still around--an F2 and a couple of beat up Fs and a nearly mint FM. Don't shoot them but not likely to sell them because what I would get isn't worth the hassle to sell them. Still have my FSU FEDs, Zorkis and Kievs. Never use them and they just sit in the case but with all the research I have invested I'm not likely to part with them. I should sit down and document the history of each one so if I check out my Net literate kids could at least put them on Ebay and maybe get something out of them since they are in better condition than the average Commie gear you will find. They don't have sentimental value for the rest of the family but them remind me of Oleg, Irina, Oksana and the legendary Anya--plus a lot of other folks from Russia and the Ukraine I met back in the "Golden Age" of Soviet Camera collecting.

With my Mamiya collection, my Kodak and Russian cameras, my German cameras, my three Speed Graphics, my two 4x5 view cameras, and my 8x10 view, I have a room full! I need to get rid of a lot of them, as I don't (and can't) use them the way they should be. It's a shame to let them gather dust.

If you sell them, they will surely be bought by people just like us, who have too many to use. They will not be used as they should be, but will sit on somebody else's shelves gathering dust.

Mine don't gather dust..... The are in display cases. I don't feel bad about having them, and my Son Casey will be the next to admire them, because to use his words..."I lust after your cameras Dad".

Ron--when I go, I plan on burying all my cameras with me. That way I don't have any of those problems...... and in the afterlife, I'll be the only one able to document it! Bob

As long as they're gathering dust for someone who appreciates them!
