Here's a brief article from CinemaTechnic in Hollywood California. cinematechnic.com/resources/avoiding_fungus_damageThey suggest direct sunlight (which contains lots of UV). As a last resort, you could try exposure to X-rays. Perhaps your dentist has a sense of humor. As a last resort how about chlorine bleach. It worked without fail for forty + years on my bathroom tiles. Mickey

nyweb,
It looks new. You must, of course, find another C3 to fit the extra leatherette parts. Now you are trapped in that endless camera collector's circle.

The more I look at them the more I see of that problem. Ideally a removable focus dial would have made that brick almost trouble free ! It is what it is though ! I think the problems may be due to the fact that all those cameras were lying unused for years. The lubricants may have thickened or even solidified. Canon had such problems with cameras that were still current and in use. I do not know what dial you refer to as the focus dial and how would removing it help. Mickey

nyweb, The focusing was stiff to near immovable on most of these. It seems to be a genetic problem with C3's. They were treated with either lighter fluid or WD40 or, occasionally, both. They all now focus freely. Mickey

nyweb,
Stiff focussing is very common with the Argus C3. Most people turn the lens rather than the geared wheel at the top of the camera. It is easier and faster. However a single drop judiciously and sparingly applied lighter fluid or WD40 to the base of the lens where it enters the body and the lens tube just in front of that, the top gear around the rangefinder window where it enters the body and the cable release hole at the top of the shutter release will usually free up everything.

John,
I think it must be sunny in New Zealand at this time of the year. I wonder if sunlight would not provide appreciably more UV rays than a torch.

daddycute, This thread is for an alphabetical listing of cameras.
I suggest you go to that horizontal bar at the top of the monitor.
Type in "Camera Tripods". You will find no end of tripods from which to choose.
Your choice will depend on many factors such as : Type of camera, Size, Weight, What kind of photography you will be using your camera for, What features do you want on the tripod, What weight do you want to carry, How frequently will you be using it, Where will you use it, How much are you willing to spend.
You might even find that a monopod (one leg instead of three) will serve you better.
After you have made all these decisions come back here and pose your question. But not this particular thread.
Go to the horizontal bar near the top of the page and select "Help" and/or "Search".
Good luck, Mickey

I just went there. I'll spend some time looking through the Konica manuals there to see if the other ones are similar. It's amazing how no one has any info on that camera ! Such a nice solid camera ! Thanks for the help ! I made a post on October 13th about my model 1 The Butkus site does have a manual on the Konica 1. Repair manuals would probably be non existent. There is actually quite a lot of online (Camerapedia etc etc) information about the earlier Konica's including production numbers. If you get into collecting the other models, the III and IIIA are the desirable ones -but the later is fairly expensive with near mint ones going upwards of $200. I think Konica had a connection with Minolta. Perhaps the same camera was produced with a Minolta name. Mickey

Bought a Konica 1 cheap because of a sticking shutter. Pulled it all apart and found tons of gunk along with a broken/unhooked shutter spring. Has anyone ever found any info or pics of this camera torn apart ? I'll get it eventually but a diagram would help ! Welome nyweb. I could find nothing on the Konika 1 however www.butkus.org/chinon/index.html has a free owners manual (Not a repair manual) for the Konika ll which might be similar and might contain enough information to help you.
