All of this reminds me of my first Nikon 35mm - a rangefinder L35AF. That thing was GREAT. I even had an aftermarket set of 46mm screw-mount tele and wide lenses for it. On the 35mm to digital topic, Nikon DID get involved with converting the venerable F3HP to a digital. It involved a massive power pack and CPU carry case and much wiring and was known as the Nikon/Kodak DCS (circa 1991) I belive that the best output was 1 Megapixel and change. I am several years late on this thread, but got an idea several years ago when I too dropped a small screw into the carpet and wanted to share how I ended up finding it. Here's how:
I took a METAL aerosol can of shaving cream - the emptier the better - and laid it on it's side, and ran it back and forth over the search area on the carpet until I heard a faint "tick". Several times I found only a small rock chip, and even an old staple. Finally though, the tiny screw was found. It took about 45 seconds total.
Happy hunting in the future!
Regards, Mark

Ha! Just scored a like-new Minolta SRT-MCII for $21. This is one of the "made for JC Penney/KMart Minolta's. In Montreal for a few days and trying to arrange for an XD-11 purchase as well. Thanks all.

I now realize that my photo never made it to the posting. Would you mind helping me out? I clicked the add photo, then pasted my PhotoBucket URL between the symbols. However, I'm just not seeing my photo or the link to it.

It's not my favorite camera, but it is the one that I seem to pick up and shoot with the most. I own better cameras, but I'm afraid to scratch them up. This Nikkormat FT2 is bulletproof, looks great, works like a champ, and still gets compliments and starts conversations whenever I take it out. Perhaps it really is my favorite. In thinking it though, I'd be most sorry to lose this one. Mark

Roy,
I have heard that the capacitor issue comes up in most cases with the XD- series Minoltas, if at all. They rarely fail. But you're right in your assumption: bring batteries, and if the shutter fires, your caps are good. The caps are there for that specific purpose. Incidentally, a cap replacement would be tough for the non-solderer / or one not trained in electronics. That, and you would want to be certain that you're replaced it with an equivalent part, etc. I am looking to buy an XD-11, XD-7, XD-5 etc... as the opportunity arises.

Bill,
I recently acquired a Sears camera myself, albeit not directly named as such: A Minolta SRT-SCII. This particular variant of the SRT-100 was manufactured specifically for Sears stores. (The SRT-MC and SRT-MCII were apparently built specifically for K-Mart and JC Penney). If you're interested, I'll post a photo.
I like your themed collection a lot!

I'm Mark and I have loved cameras and photography since I was a kid. At 38 I have just began to collect cameras - something I have always wanted to do, specializing in Nikon and Minolta, MF only. Basically, the well-built mostly if not all manual heavy metal machines from the 60's & 70's. I had no real interest in Minolta until I scored a pristine X-700 (with Rokkor) on Craigslist for $15. Now I seem to enjoy them more than the Nikons, likely due to the price point. So far...
Nikon: F3, F2AS, F/FTN, Nikomat FTn, Nikkormat FT2, FG
Minolta: XE-5, SRT303b, SRTSCII, SRT201, SRT100, X-700
I like this website and appreciate being able to be a part of it.
