That is a Canadair Dash 8 / Q400 - yet another great in a long line of fine Canadian planes.
Neat pictrure!

From what I can tell Bobby Lee is no longer with us. He specialized in guitar straps back in the 50's & 60's, making straps for legends like Les Paul and Jimmy Hendrix. Here are a few: hippiestrap.com/search-results.aspBobby Lee straps still in the box sell on the web for around $50. The link above features original Bobby Lee prints made after market by Hippiestrap.com. My wife tells me she bought the greenish-blue original Bobby Lee (photo at top of thread) at Disneyland in 1988. Mark

I agree: I hate to sound "down" on a free camera, but this thing is just funny to hold and operate. I can't imagine how you must feel about operating a 7000 or 9000 with all the extra buttons. Can't scoff at a freebie though. F-I-L is offering me a Maxxum 400i with two lenses as well! Will I be on Ebay attempting to round out a Maxxum collection? Probabaly not. Will I regret it in 30 years?
It's obviously not winning any beauty contests either - especially sitting on the shelf next to several XD and XE series Minoltas. But, I'll give it a fair shake and run a roll through it this week to see if it has any redeeming virtues. Story has it that my F-I-L bought it for my wife while she was in highschool in the 80's and that she used it through college then left it at the house one day where it sat until 2009 (last week). It still had film in it that I had to swear I would not get developed (so off to Walgreens later on...!).
Curiously, the internal motor drive sounds EXACTLY like the one in my Nikon N2000. I wonder if Nikon and Minolta sourced the same motors? May have to unscrew them and find out.

Fringe benefit to collecting cameras: Hippy Straps! These period pieces often accomodate the Ebay or Craigslist find and, as it turns out, are more comfortable and durable than the thin, synthetic material newer ones. Two of mine are Bobby Lee Straps - Bobby Lee made guitar straps back in the 60's and also got into camera straps. Here are a few of mine. Fun! Peace, Mark

I was out in CA visiting family and my Father In Law gave me this old Maxxum: I just don't have much interest in using AF SLRs. It appears to be working all right though. It features Program and Manual modes (since there is no aperture ring, the adjustment is made using the up/down arrows on the camera body under the "Maxxum" label). I think this was the 3rd Maxxum - the simplest and least expensive of the 9000 / 7000 / 5000 range of early AF Minoltas. Take care, Mark

This old brick wall in De Leon, TX is called the "Wall of Recall". Nikomat FTn w/ Nikkor 50mm f2 lens on expired Kodak BW400CN print film. I thought it was a neat picture from a very old community in central TX. If you look closely you can see the artifact from previous wall painting from years prior. Now that I have camera collecting under control I will - as promised - try to get into actual photography! Critique welcome. Take care, Mark

Sounds like a good deal to me - although mine was a "rescue camera" that I got free. Years back my wife's grandfather was "...throwing out old cameras and junk!" and I scored this 80A, as well as an Automatic 100, and a Mamiya 8mmG, Model III movie camera. There is a Polaroid collector on this site who has a pretty nice website with value info for these cameras. I think I found out mine was worth maybe $13 bucks. Ebay seems to jive with this price. I will probably just hang on to mine. Let me know if you score some film - I'd love to use mine one more time. Regards, Mark

Curt -
You're enjoying an early Christmas, it sounds like. I am still on the hunt for that "deal" on an FT3. I own an FTn, FT2, and EL2 - and think they will probably work solidly for the next 100 years given the way they were built.

Andrew -
I agree: The "Hippy Straps" that sometimes come with an old camera are comfortable, secure, and great looking. Added bonus when you get one that will hold film and filters. I'm gaining a pretty cool incidental collection of them myself just from Ebay and Craigslist purchases.

I've only time for one hobby these days - cameras. I would like to actually get into "photography" one day too!
Fine - since we're talking about actors/actresses: Kristen Scott Thomas, Claire Danes, Eva Green...
Rachel - Roger Moore was the funniest and most charismatic James Bond in my opinion.

Since I made this post, I have done some restoration work on both the XEb and XE-7. I have found that the original lubrication on the advance/advance catch assemblies tends to solidify and get 'sticky' after 30+ years. I find myself disassembling these things and rubbing the many small parts down with my wife's nurse alcohol swipe pads (as an RN, she brings tons of them home in her pockets - and I clean stuff with them!). Once cleaned up, I re-assemble and then re-lube them with Loc-Tite Super Lube which has a static life of over 100 years advertised.
Every one of my XE-series cameras - despite their age, use, or origin have displayed an identical service/maintenance problem array diagnosable down to lubrication end-of-life. Otherwise, they're great and my meters are all okay (I think - they match a known-good XE-5 anyway).
I kind of expect the same problem with my XD-series bodies in the near future as a few of mind are already showing signs.
Take care! Mark
PS - I am actively looking for the following bodies - will buy!
XE (Japan model) XE-1 (Europe model) XE-Any Model Except for XE-5 or XEb for parts

Curt, nice. Nikkorex has been described as a "backwater" in Nikon's history, but I think it might better be described as the precursor to Nikkormat. Good camera - I think the Nikkorex F probably represents the best of the Nikkorex line.
Does this F have a classic Nikon F-Mount? I presumed that was what the "F" stood for, but...

Kat,
I wish I could work on your camera for you. In fact, I was given one of these C3's as a kid and, due to the very limited ASA range, was 'forced' to shoot Kodachrome 64 in it (one of my favorite landscape films). I remember it being very stiff to operate - especially to focus, but took fairly good pictures. I haven't seen one in a long time.
Good luck with it.

Drako,
I do not own Canons, but have also heard that the FTb is a grand machine. Wasn't it one of the first ever AE Shutter Priority cameras? If I started collecting Canons, I'd be in BIG trouble with my wife...!
