I know I can find a cap of the same value, but the space is so tight, I also need to have the same dimensions. I did TV repair in a past life, so soldering isn't an issue.

I got mine for a dollar, too. It was in a pile with some cheap plastic P&S cameras.

My grandfather had shetland ponies when I was a boy. We loved going to grandpa's house to see the babies in the summer.

$1? $1? $1.00?You lucky sonuvagun! Good Job, Doug! Nice haul! Roy Give ya a buck anna quarter fer it! I paid $1 for my XA a couple years ago, but the flash no longer works. It sounds like a firecracker going off as it charges up, which is kind of scary next to your face. I think the capacitor is shorted. Ron

We had 48F yesterday, which is unusual for northern Ohio in January. The cold air is reaching us today, with temps falling to single digits.

They just keep getting older and older. I think it is the weather more than anything else that takes its toll. Mickey With the changes in agricultural practices, the old barns aren't very useful to farmers anymore, so they don't get the maintenance they need to survive. Once the roof goes, the walls soon fall in.

That camera is a lot more stylish than the Canon WP-1 that I have.

Thanks for the comments. I may have to get a Polaroid at the thrift store to scavange the mirror. I have an SX-70, but I don't want to tear it open yet. Then I can get some film and try it out. I have a 120 spool and developing tank, so I could get b&w film and do it at home.

I can wind the camera and when I press the shutter, the first curtain opens, but the second curtain doesn't move. Also, the mirror stays against the focus screen. The mirror is being held up by the mechanism and not stuck by old foam, since I can pull it down against spring pressure. I am guessing that the second curtain has come loose from the tapes. I found some tear down instructions on Ron's Mamiya site, so I'll give it a go. If it doesn't work out, I'm only out my time.

I mentioned this camera in another thread about pre WWII Japanese cameras. It is a Minolta from 1937. Some places refer to it as a Minoltaflex I, although it doesn't say that anywhere on the camera. After the war, they changed the nameplate to say Minoltaflex. All the labels are in English. Problems are the frame counter is broken so it doesn't stop winding after each frame, and I wiped the front silvering off the viewfinder mirror. There is also some dirt or fungus in the lens. The shutter, aperture, and focus all work, though.

The Super Multi Coated Takumar lenses seem to get a lot of attention, but I was searching around the net and it seems that the Mamiya/Sekor 55mm, 1:1.8 is pretty good as well. Last summer, I found a broken 1000DTL at a flea market for 50 cents and I just got around to attempting a repair. The second shutter curtain doesn't close, so it looks like the repair may be beyond my abilities. The good news is, I got the aperture blades freed up, so, at least I got a good lens out of it. I also have a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm 1:1.4, and a Cosinon 50mm 1:1.8. I plan to try all of them out on my Pentax SPII. Does any one have opinions on these lenses as they compare to one another?

It's hard to believe that they sold for hundereds, if not thousands, of dollars just a few years ago. For most people's email and internet posting, those older cameras have plenty of resolution. They can post a picture without having to resize it. I have a couple 2 Megapixel cameras to play around with. Sometimes finding a compatable memory card is the hardest part. Propriatary batteries can set you back too, so I try to stay with AAs.

Stuck shutters seem to be a problem with the Hi-Matics. The more that they get used, the better off they are. If I leave my 9s sit for a month or so, it is slow for the first time or two, but frees up after that. A small annoyance for such a sharp lens.

This thread inspired me to get out one of my Honeywell Tilt-A-Mites and try to get it working. It uses a 15 volt battery, but I had recently purchased a 23A 12 volt battery for a car remote, so I thought I would try it. I had to shim the smaller battery to fit the space, but when I put a M3 bulb in, it fired right off.
For reference, the M3 bulb has a 9 mm diameter base and has a groove around it. The P25 is 15 mm and has bayonettes, like a car's turn signal bulb.

Thanks Wayne, I will give it a try. I always got the cloths from the eye doctor, so I never used them for anything but glass.
