Watch out for deteriorating light-seal foam on all cameras. IMO, you should replace all light seals around the back before putting film in a classic camera. Mark Overton My German and Russian Classic Cameras do not have any light-seal foam.

I am currently using my Spotmatic SP1000 with a Helios 44 lens.
It has a battery but works fine without it.

My latest purchase - a Nixon Nixette camera. It is a rather simple camera but proving a delight to use - I am halfway through a roll of Fomapan Creative 200 film (which I am shooting at EI 125 as previous experience of Fomapan has given rather thin negatives). The camera has already passed the durability test - I put it on the car roof while I was fiddling with stuff and then I knocked it off onto the road. It does not seem to have taken any harm. It has unusual struts holding the lens/shutter assembly in place - hinged from the top rather than being collapsible.

I have just bought a Balda Baldi. Meyer Trio plan 5 cm lens and a Compur shutter. Shutter has a non-standard serial number (A076393) so I cannot date it and the lens serial number points to 1938. As noted above, it has a 3/8 inch tripod socket but has a 1/4 inch slug in it.
I have a roll of 127 film on the way to test the camera.

Welcome, Richard.
I do not display my cameras at all in the interests of marital harmony. I do use them all as fast as I can afford the film. I have an advantage over others here in that I only have 40-odd cameras. When you have hundreds using them is no longer practicable.

Fed-2

Had an embarrassing session with this camera. Finished the test film and was busy rewinding when I noticed the lens cap. All those brilliant photos of trawlers in Scarborough harbour - nothing. At least I am sure they would have been brilliant if the lens cap had been in my pocket where it should have been. I shall never know now.

I finally gave in to temptation and bought a Fed-2 from the Ukraine. I was a bit dubious as I have had a bad experience from a chap in Russia (yes, I know, different countries now) and I wasn't sure what effect the current conflict would have. Was delivered in 6 days from me paying (I've had slower from British sellers) in the condition described apart from the rangefinder not being correctly adjusted but I tend to use hyperfocal focusing so I don't really care. Test film about half-way finished.

Andy, I think you need an 'enter' between each 'jpg' and 'http,' in your links

I have a current project photographing mediaeval church interiors - RAW is essential to this because a lot of exposure adjustment is required. Like Moltogordo, I use Linux and Gimp - for RAW I use UFRaw which links seemlessly into Gimp.

I use three serial number fields: body, lens and shutter. I also have a field for the outcome of a film test.

I quite like to see old threads being revived - a lot of the discussions are still interesting.
Most of my cameras are 'rat'cameras, 'as new' is not really interesting to me.

Ica Icarette model A (I think). No sample photos, the spool size is 117 and I only have one spool so cannot respool 120 film for it.

Welcome, John - from another John.
Your collection sounds remarkaby like mine. I try not to spend more than £15, including postage. And all are used as often as I can afford.

I understand about the focal length but not why they bothered, as Peltigera knows, it only comes out a fraction, why didnt they just fix it in the out position? Mine moves exactly 2 cm - might the difference be the different shutter mine has? The shutter is locked while the lens is collapsed but I now find the focus isn't - it is just very hard to move.
