I have a pretty divers collection of SLRs myself : My original 1965 Topcon RESuper purchsed in 1983 to to do professional work Minolta X700, SRT101 would like to have another 102 or 202 Canon T70 & T90 The T90 is available for sale Zenit E 1980 Olympic edition with 39mm lens mount Kodak Retina Reflex IV: currently en route to Chris Sherlock for repair, need rear element for 50mm f1.9 lens Petriflex in parts: needs a spring, and lens: spring flew away during repair, lens was consumed by fungus yes fungus eats camera lenses ! well ruins them, so keep your cameras dry!

Minolta X700 has the same un powered default shutter speed, came in very handy once when I could not get batteries. Don't spend to much on fixing an EM they sell very cheaply on Ebay and at thrift stores. Jay

Beautiful ! I would like to get my hands on one of the Agfaflexs they just look so nice. With changeable finders and lens on some models. I can attest to Chris having Springs and knowing where they go: Chris has saved me more than once, really showed he is the Retina master when he resurrected my IIc I sent him which had set in baggies for over a year after I lost a spring from the compur shutter. Note: don't take apart advanced compur shutters unless you have extra parts and experience! send them to Chris Springs seem the bane of my existence ! when I lose them they never seem to return, I'm thinking of making a magnetic chamber to work in so springs stick to the walls, well maybe a less cluttered work area would be a good start. LOL

I have many years worth of 35mm Negatives and while the sleeves are very nice and I have binders full I have been looking for a method to put documentation directly on the negative. How could I attach something over the sprocket sections like Fuji labs used to do ? It would need to be something acid free attached with acid free adhesive and write on or printable on computer. Transfer to CD DVD is not a permanent solution for many reasons: the physical media does not last forever as many think and future readability are the two that come to mind. I would rather preserve my negatives and perhaps have CD DVD copies if I get to that.
Thanks Jay

My first real camera was 35mm ANSCO ( Agfa) Memar given to me by my father about 1977 good lens, terrible no lines viewfinder. Then up[graded to a used Olympus Trip 35 these were used for college year book at a very small school that had no cameras. When I got a little money for a SLR I bought a Minolta SRT SCII (KMart branded SRT 200) that was on clearance due to a problem with the switch. When I started making slides for Multimedia shows in 1983 I bought a used but excellent condition Topcon RE Super because with the meter in the bottom, waist level finder and prism, changeable screens and all it was a great one camera for all kinds of work especially copy work: better than the Nikon F I though and what I had wanted from the first time I had seen one. while I traded my 2nd RE super off I still have the one that did the most work and with only 2 routine CLAs one when I bought in 1983 and a recentl check up it still works like new. lately I have went to simple RF cameras with the Retina IIIS being my current favorite. Now to use the 200mm on the IIIS ! anyone have a full view, shoe mount viewer for 200mm ? maybe a turret type ? I do hate the tiny 135mm frame lines can't imagine what 200mm would be like !

Does anyone polish lenss?
I have a Retina 50mm f1.9 that the rear element has lots of fungus damage I can't fix so I'm looking for someone who can polish it off , or a good rear element.

I am somewhat surprised that no one has mentioned the Petris having missed the war by a year and bad knees I was not there to see for myself, but remember repairman Larry Hixson telling me he got lots of Petris from guys who bough them in Vietnam, and others have said they were the cheapest. I suppose like everything else about the Vietnam war what cameras were available would depend on where you were and when you were there.

Wayne that is exactly what the front element looks like, if he secound round does not clear it up Iwill dump the Petri lens , the Retina lens is to valuable to dump untill I've exhaused all possible remidies, and I have had sucess with Ponds cold cream in the past just did not work this time, itis slow so perhaps a few more weeks in Ponds if the Tinactin does not work.
Unfortunatley the vacuming did not recover anything but a bit of dust so the Petri Flex V is up for grabs if you want it John: just pay the shipping and it's yours. It was a just a for fun something diffrent project as I don't have that much interest in Petri flex cameras. I did buy a magnetize demagnetize tool that should help with these pieskey springs!

Thanks Mickey I gave the lens a Tinactin cream: Tinactin is available in cream and a spray power, I used the generic cream with same active ingredient and amount of active ingredient after see the results of another user treatment and it improved some of the elements but the front is still pretty bad some I'm giving it a second treatment. If I don't find the spring maybe John will want it as it is in pretty good shape and would likely supply the parts he needs for his Petriflex 7. I have a Retina 50 f1.9 lens that cold cream seems to have made worse so I'm trying the Tinactin on it. Jay

MY PetriFlex project has hit snag in that I have lost the spring on the lock shown in your last picture of the bottom of the camera it's 1 of only 2 in the bottom and the only no captive as the other is captive by the shaft where this one just clips over top of the pawl the only other hold up is memory of where this one part that looks like an Italian horn: it activates the escapement under the mirror box but I just can't picture in my mind how it went, I was sure I took Pictures but there not to be found on my digital: I'll figure that one one out sooner or latter the spring is going to be the tough part!, and the lens fungus is proving tough as well first application of Tinactin did not get it. I find small springs like this the hardest part.

I though Ebay was setting prices these days so I just do the completed listings and take an average for the condition of the item in question. Have a Minolta 102 or 202 laying around? I've had several Minolta s but never had the top of the line when it was time to get a pro level camera I bough my used Topcon RE Super because it had the removable prism and magnified right angle viewer along with other things that made it best for copy work and did i make the slides for multimedia shows ! Those shows with 35mm slides on a 20 x 30 foot screen put most of these power point computer generated shows to shame!

I'd also like to make a collection of representative cameras etc. the cameras need not work just be able to be cleaned up and look reasonable and I can hopefully repair at some point. If you have or know someone who has a camera that fits into this project please let me know I don't have any financial backing or budget so I can't pay a lot and definitely can't pay market prices for Leica M3 or a Nikon F but if you or someone you know has such a camera they want to go to a good home and this project please let me know.

Hello all
Vietnam was likely the most photographed war of all time both professionally and as is my interest by the military personnel who bought cameras from the PX. I would like to document what cameras, film etc. were available and used, and Ideally have a place where veterans can share the pictures they took in Vietnam, and maybe someday make a book.
Thanks Jay

Thank John
I have the lens working again but the glass is not so good looks like almost like hundreds of small scratches on all the elements. The body is cleaned of the Graphite that had been sprayed on everything and ready to be striped and final CLA so it's coming along. wish I could post a pic of the lens glass as I'm just not sure if cold cream would help it or it's just as well to leave it alone, at least it focuses and diaphragm works now !
