They do indeed, Randy. Leica was coined from LEItz CAmera.

If Cosina made Carena (I always thought they were a general purpose manufacturer in the way Cosina were) then the field widens a bit into my area of interest! Topcon. For the following are identical - Carena KSM1, Topcon AM1, Cimko LS1, Quantaray D2-RZ and Exacta KE5 More information and more importantly, pictures here: www003.upp.so-net.ne.jp/Topconclub/fpslr5.htmFurthermore this huge list: free.of.pl/h/henry/apk.html also turns up some more suggestions to investigate - as he has lumped all manufacturers together, it is difficult to "unbundle" the differing Cosina made models. He does suggest: Agfa (interesting that - the Selectronics) Bauer (? model) Kenlock, Panagor (I thought they were lenses only) Selmax (never heard of them) Nice little "bumper bundle" for you to follow up! My investigations also turned up: www.oz3d.info/sscc/mags/136/NL136Jan98.pdf which has aparagraph or two about this very topic. Paul P.S. Just found a cine camera link-up between Cosina & Carena here (scroll down a lot!): www.kolumbus.fi/puistot/collect.htm

Paul
thank you so much!!! I will be following up all your leads later today, once a little work is out of the way..............
I am ever so amazed at how many SLRs Cosina has produced. They must have one hellva facility.........especially when you add in rangefinders, lenses, flash units and tri-pods.....for all these years and all these names they produced them under......it is truly amazing. I will keep updating the Cosina-made SLR list....and will re-list as it grows.
thanks again Bob

Hi Bob, I see you mention Prinzflex Super TTL in your Cosina list. Haven't got one of those, but I've got a Prinzflex TTL (not Super), and that's made by Chinon - at least, that's what it says on the camera, but it seems you never can be sure!
I don't know what model Chinon it is, but it's M42 mount, vertical metal blade shutter 1 to 1/1000, speeds and ASA setting on a dial at the front just above the delayed action lever, battery switch on the left side of the lens housing. I don't think the lens is original, it's a 1.8 Auto Reflecta with a stop-down lever underneath so it can be used on auto-diaphragm and non auto-diaphragm cameras.
I picked it up from a junk box. It's a bit knocked about cosmetically, and the mirror's got a couple of spots, but it all works.
Prinz, by the way, was - and is - the house brand name of Dixons plc in the UK. Dixons started as a chain of camera dealers and bought the old-established Wallace Heaton/Westminster Photographic/City Sale and Exchange group, but now they're mainly consumer electronics with just a few video and lower-bracket digital cameras. Dixons also house-branded the Zenit B and Zenit E among quite a few other cameras, exposure meters etc.

Bob,
I wouldn't doubt if there are a lot more. Cosina has been around for a long, long time; and different major brand companies have farmed work out to them.
Had read somewhere a few years ago that they or Kyocera makes all the Nikon point & shoots.

Bob,
Have just come across a suspicious character - the Zodel 2MTL - suspicious - well yes very! It has Cosinon 50mm f1.8 6 element of the highest optical performance!
Date 1971 - Price £89.75
Sold by the very upmarket camera shop in London called Wallace Heaton. Will publish a picture in this thread later (doing this whilst I do some slide scanning - doesn't it take forever!)
The Amateur Photographer published a Camera Guide each year and I have a run from the early fifties to the 1970s. I'll have a look and see if I can spot a few.
Suggestion Bob - if you want us Cosina spotting, could you publish a photo of their main models, so we could guess which one lay underneath the new badge!
What aout a member's research thread - I haven't seen one of those anywhere on the web, have you? So there is a place where we can check whose added what.
I am not a Cosina collector, but I have a wealth of material that would help Bob - shelves of mags going back to 1903 - no Mr Silve,r I'm not going to photocopy all of them for you! You can ask me nicely about certain models though!
Gone on enough, so must stop

Paul
you are correct! the Zodel 2MTL is a Cosina!!!
thanks much...I appreciate it.
yes we can consider this a Cosina research thread.
And Paul...I will post some photos tomorrow to help folks identify Cosina made SLRs---great idea.
As far as your magazines and research....anything you can uncover...at your leisure...would greatly appreciated. Thank you! And if I have a question about a particular make and model may I tap your sources for info?
thanks very much Bob

I think we should put this information on a permanent website for posterity. When we are done we should start on CHINON.

I think we should put this information on a permanent website for posterity. When we are done we should start on CHINON. Well Randy, I have come across a Chinonflex which looks just like my Ricoh Singlex TLS. Have a look at this site www.butkus.org/chinon/ebay/chinon_images.htmand look at the Chinonflex pictures. There are lots of other Chinon & Ricoh cameras there. BTW Bob, I think you should sort that list of Cosina cameras into alphabetical order
