The ones sporting an Argus Sekor lens are a little different, they have a hot shoe instead of the optional accessory shoe, are possibly made by Mamiya but have the same unique body stlyings of the Hi-Lite so it's hard to say. I know that Mamiya made a version of their MSX for Sears as the TLS 1000 MXB, maybe it's the same camera? At any rate, there is certainly speculation as to who was an OEM for whom back in the day, as Cosina, Mamiya and Ricoh were known to manufacture equipment for other brands, see Sears and Vivitar SLRs for examples (among others). One thread from my ACG source: Mamiya was an OEM in the early 60s making cameras for Argus, Sears and others, then sold the dies and tools to Ricoh who tweaked the design to come up with the Singlex and its Sears version. The very similar Cosina Hi-Lite came after that and at this point there's no telling who really made what. I've even seen the Ricoh TLS with a Mamiya lens. Bob: I'm not at home, or I would be looking for my notes! I'm not sure if Mamiya manufactured the Ricoh, or just sold the design to them. Mamiya did provide the Sekor lenses, for sure. When I get to my notes, I'll chime back in with what I found!

OK
another SLR has come to my attention that is really a Cosina.
The camera retailer Porst (from Germany I think) has had many models made by other big name manufacturers. I know that for a fact, the Porst CR-7 is a Fujica AX-5....I believe many of the Porst CR series were made by Fujica. Well, guess who made the Porst Compact Reflex---yep --Cosina...it is the Cosina CSM....so that is being added to our Cosina list. Now of course that probably means that there is an entire line of Porst SLRs from a certain era that are all made by Cosina......so if anyone can add models by Porst that were made by Cosina....I would certainly look to verify the info. and then add them to our list!
thank you...and an updated list to follow. Bob

If the GAF L-ES was made by COSINA, then all of the other L series GAF cameras would be also, because they are pretty much identical. L-14, L-17, L-CM, L-CS and so on. The Chinon versions like the Chinon SLR model are identical too!!!

Were there many Japanese SLRs that Cosina DIDN'T make?. If the list gets much longer, Bob, you might find it easier to list those!! ;D

Randy
so it seems that Chinon accepted a contract to make cameras for another company and then sub-contracted to Cosina. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. musta been some money to made somewhere eh?

Bob: I was reading through your list above (honest!) and noticed you mention the Nikkorex F as being made by Cosina. I have to disagree, because I'm certain it was made by Mamiya for Nippon Kogaku (Nikon)... I got my information from the Nikon Historical Society www.nikonhs.org/article_archive/quest.html (the link is about 2/3 of the way down the NHS page!) NHS, some years ago, very nicely added a link back to my site for mentioning it! Looks like one you can subtract from the made-by-Cosina list! ;D

Here's some more on the Nikkorex F from Stephen Gandy at CAMERA QUEST.

Randy and Ron
thank you!!
Randy's links explains the confusion. Mamiya sold the rights for the design to Ricoh who must have contracted Cosina to produce their's and Sears' very similar looking models.
I have eliminated the Nikkorex F from the Cosina-made SLRs list.

Looks like the NHS site linked to Stephen Gandy's CameraQuest site for Nikkorex F info, too! ;D
