We lost to the better side today, so kudos to Netherlands! As we went down fighting, no regrets here and everyone is mighty proud. Paraguay also went down playing quite well against Spain. I'm really sorry for Argentina, who lost their bearings completely against Germany. As for Brazil, we all hope they start playing again like South Americans do, and forget this boring Dunga style. This, for me, has been one of the best World Cups I can remember (since I started paying attention in 1970). Lots of interesting, close matches. I'm looking forward to Uruguay v Germany in the third-place match on Saturday, as well as the Netherland v Spain final on Sunday!

So we've a new name on the trophy. A deserved win for Spain, who I thought had lost their way somewhat before the tournament started. Good to see the footballing side win against the rather shameful tactics of the Dutch. The ref is being slated by both sides - too harsh by the Holland team, and too lenient by the Spaniards.
I tend to go with the Spanish - if he'd sent a player off (probably de Jong) earlier in the game, it wouldn't have turned out to be the yellow card-fest that it was.
I'm glad the better team scored before the horrible penalty shoot-out that the Dutch were obviously playing for. But in fact the play-off for third place was a much better match for the neutral to watch.
Regards - John

Alas! As it turned out, I missed watching both the third-place game and the final! My wife's family reunion was early Saturday afternoon in a local park near my in-laws ... no TV. Sunday we were en route from the reunion to an overnight get together with some old friends from high school during the game. Got to hear it on ESPN Radio, but couldn't see it. Darn! I was more intersted in seeing Netherlands win it, but it seems it was a well-deserved victory for Spain, and it was good to get a new winners name for a change. Now I have to wait another four years for the next one!

We don't watch much soccer but did catch the last 20 minutes of the final game. Any game that goes through regulation time and into OT with the final score of 1-0 is a good game. The fans got their moneys worth and both teams have nothing to be ashamed of except some rough play. I do think the Dutch team came off a little too sullen in their loss and showed somewhat less than outstanding good sportsmanship after the medal presentations.

Spain won a very boring game, but at least they played football. I don't know what happened to the Netherlands, they went overboard with fouls. Even so, they had two clear opportunities to score which where missed.
The third-place game was the best match in the tournament IMHO. Again Uruguay lost 3-2, but we gave the young Nationalelf a good rattle. Forlan got an incredible goal and was voted Golden Ball, what else could one ask for?
We have enough sky-blue happiness to last us for another 40 years.
