I've bought another F1 new because the price was right. I've noticed they are getting increasingly expensive to a point where they've become about double the price of a nikon F3. The problem however with these F1's is they are becoming vulnerable due to their age and some things like electronics are beginning to give trouble. There's a problem to with the plastic gears canon used in the transport mechanism slipping. These problems can be costly to repair or render the camera useless this is the reason why some canon enthousiasts opt for the "older" F1 wich has no plastic parts in its interior and what's electronic isn't nescesary to keep the camera working. Leica did the same with their M4/2 (plastic gears) this is the main reason why the M4/2 is the cheapest to be found on the second hand market. At this point it isn't clear if F1 new prices will keep rising or the breaking point is near. Anyway I like to use the F1 new on some occasions, so far it hasn't let me down.

After I've had the D7100 converted to infra red, I thought it would be nice to have another visble light DX body. In the past I've used the D500 and was very impressed by it so maybe a D500 would be nice. When I went to my favourite foto store I saw they had a second hand D5500 with battery grip for very little money. Not realising what a D5500 could do I normally wouldn't give it a second glance but when going over the specs I was quite impressed. So I bought it took it home and found out just what a lovely little camera this is. The swivelling touch screen,no low pass filter, many operational modes to choose from, very light weight, with the right lenses impressive image quality.... what more do i need? Well if it was to be my only camera i would like a real prism finder (not a porro mirror prism), a PC socket (for studio flash), better compatability with older lenses and less plastic, but because I've got a lot of other bodies with those features this doesn't bother me. Now this D5500/5600 is most likely the last DSLR nikon has made as they are now going full mirrorless. DSLR's are a dying breed as just about any maker are fasing them out, maybe some brands will keep one in their line up who knows? Here's my 5500 so far I'm very happy with it.

As the prices keep dropping on nikon rangefinders, i took the opportunity to get an S2 as companion to my SP, maybe i'll get an S and an S3 as well, we'll see how the market turns out.

The square in front of the old village forge (maybe a bit weird in infra red)

The nikon 1 system despite being wonderfull cameras, never were very succesfull. The main reason people didn't buy them was their small sensor size. lately more and more people are becoming aware of the virtues of the 1 system now 13 years after their launch. This somehow comes to prove that some ten years ago digital cameras had reached a level were people said this is sufficient for me, these cameras can take care of all my photographic needs. I've got a few 1's and use them occasionally. for the collection i would love to have one of them pink panter pink (not the metallic pink) J1's but they are rather rare and beginning to fetch "collectors" prices. Next on the list I'm going to convert my (white) J1 to full spectrum infra red and have some fun with that. Here's my current stock:

When comparing the F5 wich is said to be a (very) big camera side to side with some "pro"s of the past with their motor drives attached it seems that the F5 isn't all THAT big

I've just installed a canon 5600f flatbed scanner. It will mainly be used to scan 35mm negatives, B&W and colour. The first problem i've encountered is the negative holder isn't able to flatten curled film, resulting in newton rings on the scans. The scanner itselve does a decent job and relatively fast, surfing the net while the scanner is doing its thing makes waiting for results somewhat more bearable . If anybody knows how to de-curl negtive film i will be happy to know about it. Here's a first result:

Well i didn't say never, so here's where it's at with the leica rangefinders in the collection. I've only used the M4 once, still not convinced to use these leica's on a regular base.

I bought this sigma 18mm widerama in FD mount with a stuck diafragm and some haze on the elements. Normally I wouldn't bother but the 17mm canon FD is beyond repair and extreme wide angle lenses in FD mount aren't (cheap) easy to find. Lucky for me the sigma wasn't hard to take apart and no unpleasant surprises were inside. Some lighter fuel took care of the stuck aperture and the haze and the sigma is now performing to its best abilities. Here's the 17 and the 18 mounted on the F1's

Made this shot on Tmax 400 used the 300mm to flatten perspective. To me it has a bit of a Eduard Hopper vibe ( but maybe I'm delusional )

I've noticed the image quality of the TZ90 detoriates very quickly once above 160 ISO converting the images to B&W for some reason seems to improve the images. Here's 3 I've made today ( 19/03/2024) The middle one was at 1600 ISO, but i guess the subject lended itselve a bit more to the "gritty" look.
