I have a very clean Autoreflex as above, the previous owner stated that he had bought it new and that only two rolls of film had passed through it, which I can believe. However, the light seals have perished. I have 1.5mm. and 2mm foam material and can replace the door seals, but I am not so confident about the seal around the focusing screen. Has anybody experience of replacing these seals on this camera and what thickness foam is needed? Please!

re:- The Konica Autoreflex TC. I will have to renew the light seals. I know how to do the door, but the seals on the screen need doing as well, does the replacement have to be done in situ and what thickness of foam is needed? Any information welcome. Thanks.

In addition, I have just bought a Konica Autoreflex TC with the Hexanon 40mm pancake lens plus a Vivitar flash, leather look case and the manuals for both. Not cheap, not expensive though, the seller states that it has had two films through it since he bought it new. Looking at it I can believe it. Now selling my other Autoreflex TC body which looks a bit tired in comparison.

Yes Doug, I was expecting that there might have been some corrosion or evidence of scraping etc, but the battery compartment is clean, dry looking all the springs and contacts are as new. The rest of the camera is doesn't have that dirty neglected look that some have. (Light seals are a bit tacky). Either the seller never inserted the batteries or the camera was shaken in the postal system and it righted itself. I have noticed that after turning the main switch off, the led on the back of the camera, top left, flickers for a short time.

I have just bought a Konica FS 1 body, described as for spares/not working, will not wind-on, shutter does not work. I decided it was worth a risk and was prepared to take the lid off and check for loose electrical contacts, nothing more. Cost me £4.20 plus postage.
Nice looking heavy, solid camera.
Put four new AA batteries in, film transport started whirring. Shutter and mirror appear to work OK, LED's light up.
Next stage, put a lens (I have two Konica lenses) on and expose a film.
Surely the seller knew to put batteries in???

Had a brainstorm and bought a Sun Actinon 24mm f 2.8 to go on the Konica, will run a film past both lenses and see how I get on........

I checked this lens out by buying a comparison review by the magazine 'Amateur Photographer' The conclusion was that it is a very average lens which is just about acceptable when stopped down to F11. It has now arrived, a very heavy chunk of glass, this one is very clean and looks good. I will be trying it out, if it is too bad it will make a good doorstop!

I have just bought a Bell & Howell 60-300 f 5.6 zoom attached to a Konica Autoreflex TC, because I wanted the camera. I cannot find out much about the lens except that it is possibly not a top rate aftermarket lens. As it seems to be a fairly unusual zoom range, I wondered if it might be related to the 'Sears' badged job. And if it is also related by marque to the above 85-300.
I will be using the lens when it arrives, if it is as described by the seller!

Hope I am not interrupting, but I thought that I would ask about the Zeiss Ikonta folding camera that I once owned around 55 years ago. It was a 127 film model, 16 exposures with a Novar Lens. It had a folding viewfinder. I have looked on various sites and the pictures of 'baby Ikontas' I have found look to be of rather older style. The film winding key and shutter release button were raised on a sort of bright metal plinth on mine and there was also less black painted metal around the lens area. I cannot remember what the shutter was. The camera was definitely for 127 film, I have one negative from it in front of me now. Thanks.

I just remembered another camera I owned for a short time. In about 1963 or 1964 I entered a photographic competition promoted by a Camera shop. The 35mm slide I entered was of a flower, an Alstroemeria, a few weeks later I received a letter telling me that I had won a prize and that I should attend the prizegiving at a hall in Petersfield, Hampshire (UK). There were 85 photos selected for the final stage and I waited and waited, as the slideshow progressed, finally near the end I had given up hoping that I was a winner, the first prize was a SLR, a Ricoh Singlex if I remember correctly. Eventually I came second and the prize was an Ilford Sportsmaster camera, the one with four! shutter release buttons on the front. The prizes were given out by Jonathan Routh, the then presenter of 'Candid Camera'TV show in Britain. I eventually sold the camera to my uncle.

I recently won as a prize, 10 rolls of Fuji 35mm film. I had 4 rolls of Agfa Vista in their boxes dated 2014 that I knew I would not use before they expired so I put them on ebay. When I sold them I was astounded that four rolls of expired Fuji 35mm (not in box) sold for 400% more than the Agfa on the same day. I know about Lomo etc., but this was ridiculous. Why do people pay so much?

Wayne, I live near Portsmouth. Plenty of photo opportunities around, Portsmouth Harbour etc. I thought I might make a list of the odd assortment of film cameras I have owned. In an approximate order. Kodak Cresta!, Zeiss Ikon folding 16 on 127, Voigtlander Vito B, Agfa Silette, Aires reflex, Leica 111g (returned to shop, faulty shutter) Kodak Retina,(owned and used as main camera for many years) Rolleiflex 4x4, Pentacon 35mm SLR with Domiplan Lens, Nikon EM, Canon AE-1, Olympus Trip, Minolta 9000, Bronica 645 (wish I had kept it) Mamiya 300c, Mamiya 645, Nikon FM (wife's camera), Pentax A3, Pentax P3, Currently I still have the AE-1, a Yashica FR 1 and a Electro 35 another Voigtlander Vito B for sentimental purpose and an Olympus OM. 1. I have had an OM 10 and various cheap plastic Minolta AF which I sold on.
At the moment I really like the FR 1 and it has probably the best 50 mm lens that I have used. I quite fancy one of the modern Voigtlander rangefinders or a Leica M3, but they are out of reach at the moment. Now have a Konica Autoreflex TC, 24mm Sun lens with matching mount for it coming in the post. (Another speculative cheap buy!)

I have replaced the light seals on the FR1, because they were starting to get a bit sticky, fairly easy, but you have to take care around the shutter area. I have also just bought a Yashica Electro GSN in Chrome from a man who lives about 10 miles from me. It is absolutely mint condition, with battery and conversion battery holder, but no strap and no case. I bought it on eBay and collected it. I had been watching some black Electros, the colour I would have preferred, I just missed one with the original box, instructions, case and strap, but bought mine for half the price, feel very fortunate.

re Taping over the name on SLR's. Recently on eBay there was a listing for a 'Asahi Pentax Prinzflex SLR'. The seller had crudely taped over the Prinzflex logo and just above that there were three small pieces of black tape over the front of the prism housing. I don't think it was fooling anyone.

I think it depends on the camera, (and the observer!) the shape of the pentaprism and top edges of the body. I really like the Olympus OM range and early Pentax in Silver. The Pentax Super A (Program A) looks far better in black. I also prefer the mid range Nikon (FE, FM etc.) in black, but silver is ok . Canon AE-1 etc. in chrome. My current favourite the Yashica FR 11 and its close cousins look far better in black in my opinion.
