Thanks, MIK and Randy.
The camera is a typical 1960's Japanese fixed lens rangefinder with either manual or shutter priority control. 45mm, F 1.8 lens. Burstein-Applebee was a mail order electronics company in Kansas City whose main business was amatuer radio equipment, but they also had home electronics and cameras. Taron made cameras for other companies as well as their own brand. Taron also made some cameras for Porst in Germany.

I was trying to put both pictures in one post.

Finally got around to scanning some negatives. These were from last summer's vacation in southern Ohio. My first roll through a Burstein-Applebee Auto EE1. It was made by Taron.

I just got a scanner for Christmas, so I was trying my hand at scanning negatives from many years of 35mm camera collecting.
This is a 1932 Ford School Bus from Avon, Ohio, which is about 30 miles west of Cleveland. I saw it at an antique tractor show on Labor Day weekend. The camera is a Ricoh AF-2 that I got for a dollar.

An "AUTO FIX FOCUS 50 MM LENS". Looks a lot like a TIME magazine giveaway camera.

I have heard of the Ciro brand, but I didn't realize that they were made in Ohio. Rick Oleson has a couple on his "American TLR" page.

"My birthday was fun, but everyone called my Christmas presents my birthday presents as well."
That sucks when you have a birthday around the holidays. One of my co-workers said that his wife always tries to get the Christmas decorations down right away so his son can have his birthday as a seperate event.
Anyways, Happy Belated Birthday!

I would have asked how much they would give me to empty out their bin! Surely there would be a gem or two in among the instamatics and disc cameras.

I bought this camera at the Goodwill store for $10. Everything seems to work okay, but the self timer lever just flops back and forth. I took the bottom off to see what I could and I found that there is a pin missing that connects the self timer lever to the timing mechanism. If I wind the timer manually, it functions fine, it just isn't connected to the lever on the front of the camera. Does anyone have a picture that would show what kind of pin or screw goes in there?
Also, is it possible to calibrate the light meter? It could also be dirty contacts, because the meter is way off and doesn't seem consistent.

Merry Christmas, and may everyone find something under the tree to add to their collection.

Living near Lake Erie provides us with a protective force field that keeps most of the snow away until mid to late January, when the lake freezes over. What little we had was washed away by the rain on Christmas day.
PeterW: Thank you for remembering the emergency crews. I have been a volunteer firefighter for 15 years. Sometimes we have to leave in the middle of dinner or church or school programs, but that is nothing compared to the disruption of their lives that the victims of a fire or severe acccident have to face. We did have a call at about 9:00pm on Christmas Eve, but it was a small fire that was quickly put out with minimal damage.

I bought a new computer with Vista about a year ago and I have not had any of the issues that people complain about. Maybe it's because it was on the computer already and not an upgrade. My employer is finally upgrading from Widows 2000 to Vista. They are always two steps behind.

My wife isn't helping. Whenever she is with me and I find a camera, she says "Go ahead, it's only $10". When I am alone, I mull it over and frequently talk myself out of buying it. Or if I do buy a camera, I feel like I have to rationalize it. A Psychology student would have a great time doing a thesis on all of our collecting/hoarding habits.

No matter how many you have, you can always find an excuse to add one more. You may get more selective, though, as the numbers become unmanageable or strage space diminishes. It depends on what your goals are for collecting; i.e. just having the cameras or being able to use them on a regular basis.

I've been having some computer trouble the last few days, so I missed the outage, but I am glad it is resolved. The Camera Collector is the first place I go to each morning. Thanks for keeping it going.
