I picked up a Bessa R and 25/4 Skopar while in Singapore in '01. The images the 25 make really peel the corneas back!

I have a 135/2.8 Elmarit-R, single cam, that I believe is not functioning correctly. Aperture stop down does not function when mounted on the camera. When dismounted, it seems to work fine except when you move the aperture ring to f-2.8. There, the lever catches in a detent and stays until the aperture ring is moved off f-2.8 and the lever is given a gentle nudge. When mounted to the camera the aperture sticks at about f-3.5. What's wrong? The lens or the operator? Thanks.

My brother picked this up at an amateur radio gathering. Fresh batteries made the meter respond but the camera won't release. The shutter is cocked. The advance lever does not lock. Pressing the release produces no action in any mode. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks.

I'll add to the above cautions. If you remove the iris unit, scribe a mark to get it back in the proper orientation and keep the f-stops calibrated. I successfully cleaned the unit in a Kiron 28mm that had gone swimming but have no idea how to get the aperture re-calibrated!
As an aside, The Kiron was a Canon FD mount with the attendant bazillion itty bitty ball bearings in the back of the mount. The swim seems to have locked the races up, solid. A week long soaking in PB Blaster (for freeing rusted parts) had no effect. Anyone hae a suggestion?

Always wondered why the Leica was 26 TPI instead of one mm!

I have an older Mamiya Sekor F.C. 35/2.8 lens in Exakta mount for the older Prismat series cameras. It seems identical, except for mount, to the Nikkorex lens of the same spec. The lens shows no sign of trauma, yet the focus is stuck tight and immobile. I think the grease may have turned solid. I'm hoping for suggestions on how to free it up, hopefully from someone who has worked on one of these. Thanks.

Thanks, Roy! A-26, B-26? I get confused by that, too. More reading required. The Sea Fury! I never even knew there was such a thing until Sun-N-Fun last year. I came late to aviation. When I relocated to FL in '05, the first job involved electrical systems for homebuilts. Shortly after I graduated to building the Malibu family aircraft at Piper. I love seeing old pictures of these old birds. Keep up the good work! Here's a link to one of my Vermont buddies. He's been shooting planes for years. www.vermontel.net/~tomh/Photos.htm

I'm surprised the slides have held up that well since they are Ektachrome, not Kodachrome. I have some 3M color film from the early '60s where the images have almost totally faded out. My Ektachromes from the early 70s have fared well. Agfachrome CT-18 and Fujichrome seem to have held up well, also. The Ansco/GAF 500 has not! I think we learned this whole Kodachrome vs. Ektachrome thing from photographers who experienced this with early Ektachromes back in the 50s. By the E-4/ Ektachrome-X era, the issue was probably well taken care of, but the old tales linger. Much like the one about Nikkor lenses being far superior to all others. Joe Ehrenreich's ad agency did a good job! Roy, Please let us see some more planes from back then! Bill

My 2000 Dodge Neon has been nosed and decked. A few years ago my son was visiting from Florida and thought my car would look cool without the grille bar. Then the screws got lost! A few years later, one cold Vermont winter day working on Land Rovers, the lead mechanic decided we should go for a cup of coffee. He backed his Landie out of the shop, cranked the wheel, stepped on the brake and nothing! All that stood between us and the river was my Neon. The trunklid was replaced but the trim left off. Only nosed and decked Neon I've seen!

The local cruisers gather at Checkers on Thursday evening. Let's revisit the day of louvers and Appletons. Kodak 200, 1/125 @ f/4, Wayne's 28-85 Kiron, Nikon F. Wayne made the comment that Kiron was the Mercedes of aftermarket lenses. I agree, even though I've had trouble with a few. They knew how to make a great zoom lens.

Wayne,
I want to get the scoop on Nikon lens compatibility as I have a bunch of lenses usable on a Nikon. I've never seen a digital Nikon work with a pre - AI lens, which all of mine are. They're not Nikkors, rather Vivitar and Soligor T4, interchangeable mount models. What have you used?

Full frame sensor vs. some lens compatibility is why I'm holding off on a DSLR. As a devoted Canonite of the manual focus persuasion, a Nikon would be my first choice in DSLR if one of their cameras would work with pre - AI lenses. I have a bunch of old T4 interchangeable mount lenses, but every Nikon I've tried, so far, has refused to work with them. The Canon 5D with adapters is my next choice, but the cost deters me.

Thanks, Steve. I've just relocated and am trying to figure out how to display the collection! Hope to get tinkering soon.

Several years ago a friend gave me a Nikkorex F that had been given to him. Upon learning that camera's story, I caught the bug for one of these. It's the original Ricoh Singlex with Nikon F bayonet mount. Basically, a restyled Nikkorex F. Just delivered today, I picked it up off E-bay last week. The history I've seen on the web says that Mamiya originally designed the camera. Nikon was "encouraged" to pick it up as an entry level camera. When Nikon later designed the Nikkormat, Ricoh picked it up. No one seems sure if assembly took place at Ricoh or Mamiya. The camera was also rebadged and sold by Sears-Roebuck & Co. as the Sears SL-11. This one is grungy, gummed up and jammed. Ever the optimist, I'm hoping I can make it work again. I'll be looking for the Sears version, too. Bill

Nice haul, Roy. I'll let you have the California thrifts and I'll grant Georgia rights to Walker but I'm stakin' claim to Florida!
