That's no help at all ! you should be telling me to resist buying yet another camera. I'm doomed, she's going to strangle me with a camera strap one of these days.

now that's spooky......I've got a lovely FX-D on my desk that I picked up today from a charity shop, it's a chrome one in lovely condition except for the leatherette and the light seals, there are no marks on it at all and it has a very nice 35-105 zoom attached. My problem is, I haven't bought it - yet I get all the photographic gear from a few local charity shops to check and value before they sell them, and this nice Yashica is in the box of stuff I picked up today. Secondly, I don't have any Contax Yashica stuff and I need yet another system like a hole in the head! but it's a nice camera, and I have some lovely vintage leather from the seats of a WW2 Dakota DC3 that I re cover it with, so it will match the Chinon CE-5. And it will automatically make me a better photographer, I just know it will. Randy, that gorgeous Contax isn't helping me at all, Help me, please......

I have heard of the name, Formula 5, before but don't know who made them. It's almost certainly a camera shop / chain store own brand. Many of them were made by Cimko who I think sold them as Ensinor, and are quite good. I've got two, one branded Clubman and the other as Tefnon. They also turn up as Super Paragon and probably many other names. Cosina is another manufacturer who made a lot of re badged lenses. Post a picture of it showing the aperture markings, there's often a clue there.

Would 'Autosol' work ? autosol.com/autosol.com/shop/aluminum-polish/I've used it for many years on aluminium parts, on cars and motorbikes mainly, and it's always worked well on those. It seems just abrasive enough to cut through the oxidised layer the Stephen describes and leave a good finish with a bit of elbow grease. But as Stephen has already said, deep marks or special finishes are going to be hard to remove and replicate.

That's wonderful, you could put it on a table in a restaurant and casually snap away. Except the smoking police would be harassing you.

I've been away with my beloved for a long weekend in the English Lake District, so I've been busy using some of cameras and lenses. Before we left home I managed to load one box with 15 or 16 lenses, a bag with 4 cameras and a few more lenses and a large box of 'stuff' ( cameras and lenses etc ) for a friend who lives up there. I came home with an even bigger box after we'd swopped 'stuff'. And best of all, my wife is still talking to me!

By reputation just about anything with Hexanon on it is supposed to be very good. But, when I was researching about a camera that I have with a Seikosha shutter there was a lot of differing opinions, ranging from poor to good. I got the impression that they were second rate shutters, but that could just be internet talk? the truth could be different. It's a nice looking camera, the truth lies with throwing a film through it.

I stitched a huge pano with Microsoft ICE a while back and I used 20 RAW images from a DSLR, and then forgot to resize it before I saved it - and wondered why my computer froze. Coalbrookdale Church. by Mudplugga, on Flickr 100% print size would be 52 x 16 inches. Microsoft ICE is excellent, and free ! Those are lovely pictures Stephen, getting the composition right in your head before you shoot all the images isn't easy.

I'm happy with my Chinon, a 28 2.8, they made some nice lenses. Those two are a bargain!

Love the old Zenits but how come everyone but me seems to find them so cheap. Recently paid £15 (about$22) for an Olympic memorabilia EM, it was in very nice condition but without the original Helios lens (thankfully my basket case EM had a good lens to donate.) Found a B this morning at the local carboot but it had a cracked prism, the seller still wanted £10 and swore blind there was nothing wrong with it. Ah well I'll keep looking. Matty Matty, if you want a Zenit I have a B, two E, EM. I will probably keep one of the E's but the others ( and a few Practika's ) are up for grabs.

Good score on all that stuff, new lenses at those prices have to be good. And the XA is a cult camera now, I was at the UK's largest camera fair yesterday ( spending money again ) and a lot of XA's were on sale at up £60 ( UK Pound )

Go to - Profile
Edit Profile
SettingsForum Theme ( the drop down box has three options, 'blue colours - default - plain colours', take your pick from them ) Save Account Settings ( at bottom of page ) and the migraine inducing blue should be replaced with something calmer, I'm using 'default' which is two shades of grey ( nothing racy here, the other 48 are no use to me ) with a sickly green header. It's much more relaxing.

Dead links can sometimes be found using 'Wayback Machine'. If you have the original URL paste it into the search box and see what turns up. archive.org/web/web.phpI've found it very effective, but not infallible.

I like the Zenit's with the Cyrillic script, they look 'right'. I've got a few Zenit's but all mine are export ones with Latin script, and none as new and fancy as this with TTL.

That's a great camera, a re-badged Chinon Memotron CE II which I reckon is an industrial grade Pentax. You scored!
