Seems like we did this a while back - but I thought it would be neat to see the current state of the many collections represented on this forum. Mine is a humble but very special home office display. Others, as I recall, own one of just about everything. Finally, I know that there are some of you who could open museums and charge admission! My humble collection of mostly-working Nikon M/F SLR's - 21 in all - started in 2007. Mark

OK, I admit it - am I the only one who had to go and Google "Terraplane"..? Nice car, Randy.

Wayne - I wonder if it's "too late" to send your older F in to Nikon and have them do the "Red Dot" conversion on it so that the FTn finder would fit? Wouldn't it be a hoot to see their expression when an old, lowly F arrives in the mail...? Funny thing though, if they could / would do it for you, your camera would triple in value overnight. Those Red Dot modified F's are really collectible. What's your old F's SN? Mark

That was too funny. Once you're in on the joke, go back and watch it again, paying attention to how the guy is about to crack-up laughing after saying things like, "...we've entered the realm of the Terrapixel!", or "...ISO 1/500th!".

Wayne, Your old F truly was a "Grande Dame". I wish you still had it too! I have two F's (working FTn's both). But one of my bodies is worn out - no shutter accurracy below 1/8 second. Here's the one that is working: It's SN 7034818 (circa 1970-71) with a working FTn meter. The lens is special to me though: it's an almost pristine Nikkor-S Auto, 50mm, f1.4 from 1966.

I've always said that I'll get my FM3A, Nikomat FS, or sweet F on CL when some kid cleans out dads closet and lets it go for $100. You're right though - some of the CL prices are funny. Even better, there's a guy on Dallas Craigslist selling an EM for $150. I wouldn't buy a dozen EM's for a buck-fifty... I have two - and that's plenty (mainly bought them to get the glass that came with them).
Bob - I restored a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera (Targa). I'll have to post a few pictures.

Hello - I've been absent for a while. I was dedicating all of my free time to rebuilding an old car and just got back into collecting. First camera out of the gate on my way back into the game. Drum roll, please.... It's like new. Not a scratch. The lens was the real treat. If you own Nikomats / Nikkormats - then you know about the #1 problem with these brilliant cameras that they don't tell you about in the manual: Be careful not to drop it on your foot!!! I am shocked at the bulk every time I pick one up. I found this on Craigslist a few miles from home with a pristine non-AI Nikkor 50mm f1.4 for the grand total of $20 for everything you see.Regards, Mark

Are you, by chance, in need of a replacement bottom deck for that FM? Or, will you keep it that way for sentimental reasons? My primary shooter is an FM and I have both black and silver parts cameras.

Yeah, that does look like it has some SRT DNA in it...

THIS is why I like this web forum so much. You learn something new nearly every day. Thanks for the great post!
(For a minute there, I thought you actually scored an example of the Purple Mountain!)

Hello, I finally found a banged-up but acceptable example of the first non-professional Nikon built for an auto winder: The Nikkormat ELW. It's really just an EL with a winder lug on the base, but there was no upgrade track to transform your EL into an ELW. The ELW was in production for less than 1 year. Here's what the SN looks like: Note the "W" before the number. The SN range started at 7500001, so I guess this one is 156: Here's the Nikon EL2 (first non-pro Nikon - actually just an AI version of the Nikkormat EL - to carry the Nikon name badge) with the AW-1 attached. The wind-on rate was probably 2 FPS with good batteries. I might also note that both of these packages were VERY HEAVY! And then it all ended: one year after the Nikon EL2 hit the market it was cancelled and the new era of the FM and FE with modern motor drives started. Still looking for a Nikkormat FS (the only Nikkormat ever made without a meter on board), and a decent FT for display (the meters in the FT were not terribly good - if I wanted to shoot I'd bring my own meter or use the FTn which was much better). Take care, Mark

I used to collect SRTs and had just about every model (except the SRT Super) and they were all chrome - never found a deal on a black one.

After seeing my own picture, a good dusting job is in order! Still looking for a black F. Also - and I know it to exist because there is a picture of one in the New Nikon Compendium - I'm still in search of that ultra-rare Black FG-20.
Does the auto-focus unit on the Agfa Chinon still work, Mik?
